The Ajna Chakra (= third eye) is the sixth Chakra, and it helps us see the world in a new way, as an acting link to universal consciousness. This Chakra is located between our eyebrows and the Ajna Chakra – the center of our intuition and sixth sense. In this post, I go through the characteristics of a balanced and unbalanced Chakra, which further helps us to listen to our innermost selves.
The Sanskrit word Ajna means consciousness. And in the case of Ajna Chakra, it is a matter of connecting with intuition, inner vision, and the highest consciousness.
Ajna Chakra is associated with several glands, especially the pituitary and pineal glands. The pineal gland is a gland located in the center of the brain and produces melatonin, a natural substance that affects sleep rhythms.
The color of this Chakra is indigo. In color psychology, indigo is a very spiritual color. It has to do with our ability to think, use logic, analyze and ultimately make sensible conclusions.

Our intuition is basically our sixth sense. It contains the knowledge of the highest wisdom that derives from beyond our thinking mind or ego. Our inner speech is often so loud and overwhelming that we cannot hear the sound of our intuition. That voice is quiet and small and can easily be suppressed by the thoughts of the thinking mind (monkey mind) and ego.
When we do not hear the voice of our intuition, we are also unable to receive messages that we would need to hear and which guide us in the right direction or lead us away from places or situations that are not for us.
The features of the unbalanced Ajna Chakra are manifested in a lack of perspective, problematic and skewed priorities, and a lack of imagination.
With imbalances, it can be difficult to focus or retain information. Our thinking can be dualistic, or we can seem to be stuck in one “truth.” At worst, an imbalance can lead to delusions.
Imbalances can cause various physical ailments, such as hormonal imbalances, hearing loss, eye fatigue or blurred vision, sinusitis, allergies, headaches, or migraines.
An imbalance can lead to a lack of concentration, dreaming, anxiety, and excessive imagination on an emotional level.
To balance the Ajna Chakra, one must learn to look at oneself and trust one’s intuition. You can close your eyes and visualize the color of indigo. Chant the Ajna Chakra mantra “Aum” and imagine a Chakra area filled with indigo-colored light, bringing clarity to your thoughts and visualizations. Indigo strengthens the connection to intuition and inner consciousness.
Incense such as cedarwood, sandalwood, and patchouli can help balance the Chakra. Or you can use crystals like quartz, which stimulate and clears our minds. Alternatively, you can use Lapis Lazuli or Amethyst.
Skullcap, in particular, brings herbal help. Alternatively, you can use blueberry or valerian, for example.
Antioxidants help maintain balance. You can choose fruit with antioxidants on your plate. These include blueberries and pomegranates. Adequate antioxidants will improve your resistance, improve digestion, and give you more energy. With increased energy, the mind also begins to clear up.
A balanced Ajna brings wisdom, inner peace, and feelings of consciousness. You may feel closer to your true self.
You can listen to your intuition and the suggestions or warnings it gives you. You will be able to visualize what you want out of your life and not get caught up in the things that cause dissatisfaction.
Every choice you make is a step forward on your spiritual path. We know that our choice has been the right one if we can lean toward light, truth, joy and love, compassion, and contentment despite the unconscious outcome of a choice.
So give your voice of intuition space in your life.
