Behind Azure Ananda

The power of thoughts and internal talk is present in our day-to-day life really strongly, and in good and bad. And sometimes we are in a situation where we are seeking out a way to use the power of the mind to get from the somewhat bad space into a better one. In this post, I’m sharing how I face the moments of negativity and turn them into more pleasant ones.

The power of the Mind

Have you ever thought about the power of your mind? Have you paid attention to how much and what kind of an internal talk can fit into just one of your days? And have you noticed that the conversion in your head starts immediately when you wake up in the morning? Above all, how are your thoughts continuously one step ahead of the task you are doing right now? Which means that you aren’t present in your day-to-day life.

You are probably familiar with a situation where you wake up in the morning on the wrong side of the bed. You might not be aware why your day got such a bad start, but still, that feeling follows you all day long. And at some point, you might wish that the day would just end and you would be able to start a new day with new fresh energy.

The past year I have woken up on the wrong side of the bed more often than I would have wanted to. Soonest I wake up and open my eyes, I realize that I feel bad. Not a good way to start a day, right? My mornings aren’t busy; I don’t need to rush into my work at a specific time, which makes me wonder why the first moments of my days are so unpleasant for me. Maybe I have just seen some unpleasant dream, which I don’t remember, but which immediately affects my mood in the morning. Luckily, I have found ways to get rid of those feelings, and my days are rarely thoroughly miserable.

The power of the mind

How to turn the negative tone into more positive one?

Did you know that our minds can handle positive and negative thoughts at the same time? Therefore it is really beneficial to note when your feelings aren’t serving you and there is something that you can do about the feelings.

I will share with you how I manage to shake off the unpleasant feelings. One of the first things in the morning that I do, is to wake up my spine and do some twists, feeling how my body feels. After this, I start Nadi Shodhana (= alternate nostril breath) breathing exercise.

Nadi Shodhana reduces stress, balances both sides of the brain’s function, brings equal amounts of oxygen to both sides of the brain for improved brain function, and purifies the energy channels.
Here you can find more information on how to practice Nadi Shodhana.

The breathing exercise lasts as long as I feel like doing it. And once I finish and return to my normal breath, I just feel how it feels to breathe. Once I’m ready to continue, I’ll start morning meditation. My meditation consists of thankfulness, forgiveness, and “painting” of the future. I also set an intention for the day. These simple steps are my way to switch my mood, and I feel more focused and positive. The first hour of my day is a mobile phone free, and I’m also avoiding all outside influences during that time. It helps me be present at this moment, and I’m not rushing through my day already in my mind.

Be here now

When we are present, we can build a wall between negative mood and negative thoughts, and it helps us stop the mind’s harmful thoughts and thinking. When we are one step ahead of this moment, we are unbalanced, affecting the internal talk negatively and our general feelings in our daily lives. If we are not present and aware of our inner dialogue, we most likely are in the swirl of negativity. Negative thoughts can quickly expand way too big without us even realizing it, leading us to be trapped in the chains of negativity.

Every day, and every moment during the day, we can make a choice; we can tap into our unwanted feelings and focus on the positive. Or we can go through our days feeling crappy. In the end, it is all about the mind and how we choose to use the mind. The power of the mind is enormous, so let’s use that power in a way that best serves us.
