The Chakra series has come to an end as we have reached the seventh Chakra. It is the conjunction of masculinity and femininity and where we move from the physical dimensions to the universal consciousness. In this post, I go through the characteristics of imbalance and balance, as I’ve done with the other Chakras. Do you know what a thousand-petaled lotus flower and the Sahasrara (= Crown) Chakra have in common? I will also reveal it in this post.
The word Sahasrara is Sanskrit and means a thousand or infinity. Unlike the other Chakras, the Sahasrara is not in your body. It is located just above your head, radiating upward and outward. It is the source of our enlightenment and spiritual connection to all that is. It represents a connection to our highest self and to every being on the planet.
Sahasrara is a path to bliss (=samadhi) and the gateway to infinite wisdom, inspiration, and synchronicity. Opening Sahasrara brings the realization that you are equal to pure consciousness.
The development/state of the Crown Chakra depends on the other Chakras. The more developed and balanced they are, the better we can connect with our own innermost beings.
The goal of the Sahasrara Chakra is to create connection and unity between all parts of us. When this Chakra begins to unfold, you sometimes feel as if your inner and outer emotions are merging.
The pituitary, pineal gland, and hypothalamus are associated with the Sahasrara chakra. The hypothalamus and pituitary gland work together to regulate hormonal activity. Energetically, the seventh and first Chakras are interconnected, representing the first and last Chakras of the Chakra system.
The color associated with Sahasrara is white or ultraviolet. The mantra is om, and the element is ether.
In balance, Sahasrara maintains your self-awareness, wisdom, and connection to your inner wisdom that guides you. You are confident and can find answers to questions you have on your mind.
Overactivity is characterized by materialism and a rigid understanding of yourself. In imbalance, Sahasrara’s energy leads to depression, a feeling of being detached from life, and a lack of compassion. In imbalance, this Chakra reveals an all-knowing nature and actions of being above others. In addition, imbalance also leads to a lack of enthusiasm and narrow-mindedness.
Moving towards balance starts with learning something new and meditating. You can put on violet clothes to activate the Chakra. The Crown Chakra’s energy is soothed by calming down the mind and paying attention to your thoughts while you won’t let them lead you.
Of the essential oils, Myrrh brings equilibrium and should be applied to the crown of your head. Lavender and frankincense are good alternatives to myrrh.
Out of herbs, the help comes along with Valerian. In general, herbs that improve memory and cognitive function are suitable for activating the Crown Chakra. Alternatives to Valerian are Meadowsweet, Vervain, and Gotu kola (= Brahmi).
If you want support from crystals, Amethyst is your choice, and optionally, you can use Selenite.
A symbol for Sahasrara Chakra is a thousand-petaled lotus flower. It has a vital symbolic significance in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions, growing and emerging from the muddy waters, blooming when there is no light.
When the seventh Chakra opens, we emerge through the boundaries of the physical body, ego, mind, and intellect. We are free from restraints and can walk towards freedom through daily meditation and stillness practices.
The daily practice connects you to universal consciousness, and with it, you will see consciousness expand in your outside world as well. You may find yourself more compassionate, kinder, and forgiving. Your life is no longer dependent on you and your desires but on serving others, and when you serve others, you also serve yourself. You are like a Lotus flower that has risen to bloom.
