Vishuddha Chakra -
Expressing Yourself Truthfully

By Hanne

Our ability to listen and communicate with others is related to the fifth chakra of our body, the Vishuddha (= throat) chakra. As we move into the fifth chakra, we are at the same time moving from our inner world and chakras to the external or “heavenly” chakras. In this post, along with the Vishuddha chakra, you will learn the secrets of expressing yourself truthfully.

Vishuddha Chakra -
Expressing Yourself Truthfully

The Sanskrit word Vishuddha means purity. The fifth chakra is located in the throat/neck and comprises, e.g., our sense of hearing and the thyroid gland. The ether is the element of this chakra that controls our ability to communicate and listen.

The Vishuddha chakra is responsible for expressing ourselves on all levels: physically, sexually, emotionally, verbally, creatively, intuitively, and spiritually. Balanced Vishuddha chakra makes you communicate and express yourself naturally. And the people around you will also find you an excellent, compassionate, and experienced listener.

The right words can be lost with an imbalance, and deep conversations can be difficult. With the Vishuddha chakra, and above all its balance, we must be careful about what kind of information we receive and listen to.

The color blue is linked to the chakra and is considered a color of intelligence, loyalty, and truthfulness.

How is positive thinking related to Vishuddha Chakra?

The Vishuddha chakra is responsible for the sense of hearing. Through it, we receive information and hear the words of others. We often receive information that negatively affects our minds in the information age we live in. To keep the chakra in balance, we need to be careful about what information we receive and listen to and how we react to it. It does not mean denying the things surrounding us, but we do not need to be overwhelmed by negativity (e.g., news).

We have no power over what other people are saying, but we need to understand that we cannot grasp and hold on to negativity. We should fill ourselves with positivity and own our highest truth. A positive attitude and internal dialog help us in moments when negative external forces are trying to influence us.

The work we should do concerning the Vishuddha chakra and its balance is to feed our minds with positive beliefs. With beliefs that support our health, well-being, growth as human beings, abilities, and understanding of all that is good and beautiful in our lives.

Imbalanced Vishuddha Chakra

Traumatic events in life can close the energy flow on the Vishuddha chakra, causing problems in self-expression. If our thoughts were silenced when we were young or if they were considered irrelevant, it might have led to an imbalance. Signs of imbalance can include tension, anger, fear, anxiety, and attention deficit disorder.

Typical signs of imbalance affect our verbal expressions, and it may cause us to be afraid of talking or being shy. We may not be able to express our desires or will to others. The overstimulated chakra makes you lie and gossip. It can also manifest as a loud and harsh voice and a willingness to manipulate others through our speeches. The understimulated chakra makes us put the needs of others before our own. A blocked chakra leads to victimization.

Problems due to imbalance can also occur in the neck-shoulder area, hands, arms, or face area. Ear infections, sore throats, and thyroid problems can result from an imbalance. On the emotional side, an imbalance can manifest as a lack of willpower or a fear that you have no choice in something.

Aiming for Balance

The mantra of the Vishuddha chakra is Ham, and chanting it helps balance the chakra. Or you could visualize bright blue light in the throat area. Surround yourself with blue; in blue clothes, watch the blue sky, or swim in the ocean.

Essential oils such as Frankincense, cedarwood, or patchouli can also help balance the chakra. The best option for herbs is chamomile; alternatively, you can try eucalyptus, thyme, or fennel.

Help for balance can also be found in crystals. You can use blue agate, turquoise, aquamarine, or lapis lazuli.

By listening, you may learn something

When Vishuddha is balanced, you communicate effortlessly about your needs and who you are, what you are saying is well understood, and you empower others with your words. Through our voice, we express our inner world and its energy. Genuine self-expression is not always easy, though, and requires the balance of all Chakras.

I will end this writing in the words of the Dalai Lama:
When you talk, you are only repeating something you already know. But, if you listen, you may learn something new.
