Your body speaks your mind

By Hanne

Have you ever thought about what your body’s symptoms or illnesses say about you? Have you looked for causal connections, for example, in the background of your conditions? It is said that your body speaks your mind, but how? And how should the symptoms of the body be interpreted? These are the things I ponder in this article, and I also reveal a “revelation” that my body communicates and what came as a complete surprise to me.

Your body speaks your mind

In her book “Your Body Speaks Your Mind,” Deb Shapiro tells a story about a woman. A woman had broken her hip three times. It always broke in the same place, as a result of an accident. The first time she fell off a horse, the second time, she was in a car crash; and the third time, the fracture resulted from falling down the stairs.

The first time the woman broke her hip happened two weeks after her fiance died. The second fracture occurred years later, after the woman’s mother had died, and the third fracture after the woman’s father had died.

Hip fractures were always preceded by the death of the person on whom the woman was most emotionally dependent. And the deaths resulted in the woman passing the addiction on to the next person.

Your body speaks to You

We all carry different stories in our bodies. If you feel that you don’t get enough support in your life or that you have too many responsibilities, these feelings can further lead to problems in the back area or in the knees and ankles, as weight in the joints.

Problems or pains in different body parts can be related to people of the opposite sex in your life. Sensations on the right side of the body (masculine side) can relate to male persons in your life and on the left side (feminine side) to female persons, respectively.

From the physical to the energetic level

When looking at the body on an energetic level, we move on to look at it through the Chakras. Chakras connect the physical level in us with the non-physical level, influencing our health. You can read more about Chakras here.

The energies of the Chakras in us can be connected, for example, to the energy of our ancestors. Some of us believe we can carry trauma in our bodies over generations; others disagree entirely with this. In her book, Deb Shapiro presents a point of view about childhood diseases and that the background of a child’s illness may be the child’s need for extra rest, attention, or love.

Childhood illnesses can be challenging to explain. The root cause of a disease can be found in the use of substances during pregnancy and in emotional conflicts between the parents, which affect the fetus through the mother’s emotional imbalance. According to some schools of thought, it could be unexplained issues from the child’s previous life or from the parents and children’s previous lives, for which solutions are sought through illness. Although the reasons behind the diseases cannot be determined with certainty, I think the last point of view is fascinating.

Which emotion is lurking behind the symptoms?

I downloaded an essential oil app on my phone a while ago. The application gives tips on which essential oil might suit different emotional states. However, this is only one way to use the app. It wasn’t until I had used the application for some time that I noticed the body section. In the body section, you select a specific body challenge, for example, back pain. The application tells you the emotional state behind this challenge and offers different oils to help. Interesting, I thought.

But then I had a little shock. Out of curiosity, I went through all the sensations and symptoms in my body using the application (cold sores, for example). The emotional state in the background mostly seemed to be “angry.” What(!), I wondered; I’m not angry. However, it came up so many times that I didn’t have any other choice but to do a little introspection that continues to this day. I still don’t think I’m angry, but as first aid, I started using cardamom oil, an excellent oil for angry emotions. It helps, e.g., objective thinking.

The first prompt of the application is to look at things more deeply and note what in life hasn’t gone as planned. Knowing my emotional state, I have also looked more sensitively at my inner speech and everything in my life. Although I still don’t think I feel angry, I can’t erase this knowledge. So I’m going to dig even more deeply and let things unfold little by little. The journey seems to be in its early stages, but luckily taking it into account will take me forward.

Do you believe your body is communicating with you? Or that some of your emotions affect your body’s sensations or symptoms? Do you think that your body speaks your mind?
