In my latest blog post, I talked about the effects of different yoga asanas. To recap, I talked about the impact of standing poses, forward bends, and backbends. If you haven’t yet read the post, you can read it here. Two more asana groups are yet to uncovered, so let’s get to it.

4. Twisting asanas

The fourth asana group is twisting asanas which improve flexibility. They help the spine’s optimal alignment, improve blood circulation, and nourish the spinal nerves. Twisting asanas can also relieve tension in the lumbar spine. They detoxify the body since the twisting squeezes out toxins from the body.

Twisting asanas activate the central nervous system, that controls the communication between body and mind. The more flexible the spine, the greater the communication flow, and as a result the body will experience greater health and vitality. These asanas also massage the internal organs and stimulate, for example, the digestive and respiratory system. And, when the spine’s flexibility improves, it affects the mind’s flexibility since they have a strong connection.

5. Inverted asanas

Inverted asanas stimulate the pituitary and pineal glands and improve the blood circulation to the brain. For example, the headstand provides the brain with fresh blood and nourishes the hypothalamus, pineal gland, and pituitary gland. These glands play an essential role in the functioning of the endocrine system.

Inverted asanas strengthen and tone the whole body, especially the neck, spine, shoulders, arms, core, glutes, and legs.

Most of all, inverted asanas stimulate the mind and make it stronger and more powerful.
